Downloading Molecool - version 2

The optimal solution is to install Molecool on all the computers the pupils will be using. During the download you will follow the instructions on the screen and choose where you want the Molecool-file to be installed on these computer(s).

You may download Molecool for free from the Internet here:

Download (22 MB)

Download time:

Internet connection    Download time
T1 (1,4 MB) app. 1 min 50 sec
ISDN (128 k) app. 20 min
56 k app. 45 min
28,8 k app. 1 h 30 min
14,4 k app. 3 h

When the download is finished you have to install the game on your computer by double clicking on the file that is now saved as an “exe”-file. Now follow the installation instructions. During this process you can select the language of the game.

NOTE: You will have to restart your computer after the installation is completed.

When Molecool is installed, you start the gamed by double clicking on the Molecool-icon on the desktop, by clicking on the green Atomic man on the Index-page or by clicking here.

Minimum hardware requirements

  • Pentium 166 MHz
  • 32 MB RAM
  • 21 MB free disc space
  • Internet connection
  • Graphic card with 1 MB memory
  • 800x600 pixels
  • Windows 95/98/2000/NT

Internet connection requirements:

To be able to play the game your computer has to be connected to the Internet, but no defined speed or connection type is required.

If you are playing on a school computer and your school has a proxy-server installed, the person responsible for the network has to change the ports both in Molecool (has to be done when the program is installed) and on the server in order to make the game function. In cases of firewall-solutions, even these have to be opened to allow two ports (15000 and 15001) to be open to molekult.molekult.no

Internet font requirements:

To be able to read the chemical formulas in the game, your web browser has to be able to read Lucida Sans Unicode. If you do not already have this font on your computer, you may download Lucida Sans Unicode as freeware from this address: http://htplus.net/fonts/main.html.

Problems?

If the program is correctly installed and loads to app. 90% and then stops, it is possible that Molecool cannot get in contact with the server. This may be caused by a proxy-server or a firewall with the wrong settings. You can check this by running the following command in a dos-window:

"telnet molekult.funcom.com 16400"

If your computer is denied contact with the server, the telnet-program will display the following message of error: "Connect failed" or similar. You should then try to find the person responsible for the network at your school.
